Top 4 ads from Ubisoft Forward
Ubisoft, like many other video game companies, was unable to host its personal model press conference at E3 in June due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, she hosted a digital event on Sunday titled "Ubisoft Forward", revealing more of her biggest upcoming games. These include Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion, recently announced royal shooter games Hyper Scape, Far Cry 6, and more. The company says it also plans to hold another Ubisoft Forward show later this year.
Ubisoft Forward comes at a difficult time for the company: Reports of a toxic culture spreading in Ubisoft recently surfaced amid multiple allegations of misconduct imposed against Ubisoft employees. Just yesterday, three prominent executives left Ubisoft, bringing the total number to four departures (and one additional comment) since the allegations were publicly released.
In a tweet published a few hours before the event began, Ubisoft acknowledged the challenges facing the company, but said it would not be discussed during the digital event. "Since all of the content was pre-recorded, we wanted to realize that the issues we are currently dealing with will not be addressed directly in the presentation," said Ubisoft. CEO Yves Glimot had already promised to make sweeping changes to the company in a letter sent to employees on July 2, including appointing a workplace culture head and creating a position for the head of diversity.
Here’s our tour of the biggest ads from the show.
FAR CRY 6 launches next year, and VILLAIN FAMILIAR could look to break bad fans
After Friday's harassment, Ubisoft officially announced Far Cry 6, the next game in the hugely popular series. Far Cry 6 takes place on the tropical island of Yarra, and will play the villain Giancarlo Esposito, who you might know as Gus Fring from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. The series is best known for focusing on villains instead of heroes, but Esposito is the first widely known actor to play the role of the strong villain to take on the role of the video game.
Ubisoft says Far Cry 6 will be available on February 18, 2021 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Google's cloud gaming service.
The created killer Valhalla will be available on November 17
Ubisoft has announced that the Scandinavian-based Assassin's Creed Valhalla game, which premiered in April, will be launched on November 17 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Google Stadia. The company also shared a new trailer for the Vikings game, which you can watch above. My colleague Haim Gartenberg recently spent three hours earning the title, and says he should be very familiar to fans of Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Assassin's Creed Origins. You can read his impressions here.
At the end of the trailer today, Ubisoft indicated that the game will "come soon" to next-generation consoles.
Ubisoft announced that Watch Dogs Legion will start on October 29 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Google Stadia, and shared some shots of the game in a new play trailer. The game is taking place in London, and the big change from previous Watch Dogs titles is that you can recruit any non-playable character in the game as a playable character. My colleague Haim also spent three hours with Watch Dogs Legion recently, and said that despite the sheer number of non-playable characters that you can play, many of them feel the same.
Similar to Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Ubisoft said the game will "come soon" to next-generation consoles.
